Music Watch: Take That

Take That is a British pop group that formed in 1990.  Music manager Nigel Martin-Smith, who wanted to form an all male pop British pop group, put the band together. Martin-Smith was hoping to appeal primarily to the teenage market with his group. He eventually met 20-year-old singer/songwriter Gary Barlow and decided to form the band around him. Martin-Smith then held auditions for the other members and eventually settled on a line up of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams.

"Take That"The group started out by performing on television and releasing a few singles, including Do What U Like. However, the first singles Take That released were only minor hits. In 1992, Take that released the album Take That And Party, which became a hit album, ranking in the top ten list in the UK. In 1993, they released their second album, Everything Changes, which was their first number one album and contained their first number one singles.

From 1993-1995 Take That toured and continued to release more albums. They reached superstar status in the UK and the rest of Europe, as well as Asia. The band appeared on magazine covers, performed on awards shows, and even sold a ton of Take That themed mass merchandise.

However, band member Robbie Williams wasn’t happy that Gary Barlow did most of the songwriting and front vocals. Williams left Take That in 1995, right in the middle of their world tour. The other four members continued the tour, but eventually decided to disband in 1996.

Ten years later, in 2006, the final four members of Take That decided to get together. They released and album, Never Forget-The Ultimate Collection and went on a world tour. In 2010, Robbie Williams rejoined the band. Take That is still together and performed at the summer Olympics in 2012.

When the time gets near for me to show my love
The longer I stayed away for hiding from a word
I need to hear now don’t think I’ll hear it again
But the nights were always warm with you
holding you right by my side,
But the morning always comes too soon
Before I even close my eyes

All I do each night is pray
Hoping that I’ll be a part of you again someday
All I do each night is think of all the times
I close the door to keep my love within

If you can’t forgive the past I’ll understand that
Can’t understand why I did this to you
And all of the days and the nights ok I’ll regret it
I never showed you my love
But the nights were always warm with you
Holding you right by my side
But the morning always comes too soon
Before I even close my eyes

All I do each night is pray
Hoping that I’ll be a part of you again someday
All I do each night is think of all the times
I close the door to keep my love within

Surely we must be in sight of the dream we long to live
If you stop and close your eyes you’ll picture me inside
I’m so cold and all alone, straight on back to me

All I do each night is pray
Hoping that I’ll be a part of you again someday
All I do each night is think of all the times
I close the door to keep my love within
